Random bear fact #1
A Swedish brown bear can eat 200 000 blueberries a day.
And they eat it one by one, pulling them off the bush with their lips.
Thats about 50kg!

Random bear fact #2
A Grizzly bear is just a brown bear that lives in North America.
The reason they are so large compared to their counterparts is that they have access to a lot more food. Specifically Salmon.
In season they have such a large access to Salmon that they only take one bite out of each. The head. (Yes, braaaains)
This is because it's more energy efficient to catch another than eat the whole thing!

Random bear fact #4
You might have heard that you should climb up a tree to escape bears.
This could be a bad choice, since most bears are actually pretty good climbers.
While a full grown Grizzly would have a hard time to get up a tree just from sheer weight they are avid climbers when younger,
smaller brown bears (from anywhere other in the world really) and black bears are quick climbers even into their adulthood.

Whoahhhh Meg....we all know who our favourite Bear is !!!!!
Holly is superb though unbearably cute!! and sassy.
I'm so glad that these facts made it on to here for us all to enjoy.....good fun, good facts...……...more please. The salmon eating was very interesting, I hope lots of other animals feel the benefit from what goes to waste. We buy very expensive blue berries, I simply cannot imagine eating them 1 by one for 14 hours!!! for even one day, isn't life amazing.

In celebration of moving to the offsite, Im going to give you the story of a very special bear!
Random bear fact #8
Wojtek the Bear was a decorated polish World War 2 veteran.
On April 8, 1942, the cub was discovered in the mountains of Iran, by a group of Polish prisoners of war who were being transported from a Siberian gulag through the Middle East to Alexandra, Egypt.
In August the bear was donated to the 2nd Transport Company, which later became the 22nd Artillery Supply Company, and he was named Wojtek by the soldiers. The name Wojtek is the nickname, diminutive form of "Wojciech" (Happy Warrior)!
Nursing the bear with a bottle of condensed milk in a vodka bottle, the soldiers treated Wojtek like a baby.
But pretty soon, as bear cubs are wont to do, Wojtek grew up.
“He would accept lit cigarettes, take a puff and swallow them,” Dymitr Szawlugo, one of the soldiers who took care of the bear, once wrote.
“He loved to drink from a beer bottle, and when it was empty, he would look through the opening to see where the rest of the beer was.”
During the Battle of Monte Cassino, Wojtek was seen on the front lines helping out the 22nd Artillery Support Company by carrying crates of ammunition and artillery shells to and from the guns.
The bear mimicked the soldiers: when he saw the men lifting crates, he copied them. Wojtek carried boxes that normally required 4 men, which he would stack onto a truck or other ammunition boxes.
This service at Monte Cassino earned him promotion to the rank of corporal.
After the battle the company adopted Wojtek as their insignia.
Following demobilization after the war, on the 15 November 1947, Wojtek was given to Edinburgh Zoo where he lived out his life and died in December of 1963, at the age of 21.
Many memorials have been raised in his honour, this one is in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.

Random bear fact #9
The Sun Bear (also called a Honey Bear) is found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, as well as the islands of Sumatra and Borneo in Indonesia.
Their teeth are very large, so that it can bite open hardwood trees in search of insects, larva and honey!
What is most remarkable about them is that when they get a hold of a behive, they can extend their very mobile tongues 20-25cm!
They do this so they can scoop up insects and honey!

Random bear fact #10
The Sloth Bear
Its time for the Sun Bears long haired nightowl of a cousin (Also a good description of me ), The Sloth Bear from the forests of South Asia.
Most famous by its portrayal by Phil Harris as Baloo in The Jungle Book (1967). - woo, that movies old.
One thing disney got right is that they other than on fresh fruit, mostly feed on termites and ants.
They use their long curved claws to penetrate nest mounds, which can be rock hard.
Once opened, they blow away the dirt then noisely suck whatever they find through a gap in their front teeth.
They are not super big, compared to the bears we are used too.
Adults "only" waying in at 80-190kg (Compared to a grizzlys 150-300kg)
What makes them cool though, is that they are the only nocturnal bear.
Sleeping in caves by day, and scouring for insects at night.
Another sweet behaviour unique to them is that the cubs ride on their mothers back when she walks, runs or climbs trees until they reach about a third of her size.
Just look at it. damn they are cute.
