Re: [Farming] Why you should be farming herbs :) Guide updated 16/04/2018
Farming is something i know that is profitable but unfortunately I can't really get into the pattern or routine of doing it. Most of the time when I play runescape I am not doing one thing. Right now, my goals are to kill 1k brutal blacks, train agility at seers. Get 68 farming through tithe, runs. And also get 75 Thieving and 69 hunter. Do western diary. Hunt Red chins. So there's a lot going through my mind. Also getting 99 fire making is a goal too. This will probably keep me busy for awhile.
You can probably see how disorganized I am. I can't really do stuff routinely. Most of the things I do ingame are a spur of the moment decisions.
Anyways, excellent guide. I'll probably buy a bunch of seeds and do the experiment you did.

A good way to avoid forgetting or putting off farming herbs would be to put the seeds and the magic secs in the first tab of your bank, maybe next to your combat gear or something else you use every day. This can remind you that it is a 3-5 minute thing you can do every couple of times you to to a bank.

I really like your guide, but one thing to consider is that the resurrecting crops spell may not be worth using, it slows down runs, may not save money and consumes inventory space.

Did a little experiment I had wanted to do ever since Ultra Compost came out.
I calculated that ranarr were the best profit. So bought 100 seeds:
Since I do Cactus spines as part of my Herb runs for the extra profit, I of course profit a bit more ^_^
Final Profit: 3.710.250 GP
Average herbs per seed: 9.8
On the spines I can see I did 45/3 = 15 herb runs to use all 100
So average profit per herb run = 247.350 GP
Overall a pretty damn good experiment ^_^

Another nice run to mix in is Berry picking. I have poison ivy bushes planted at each of the 4 spots (Champs guild/Rimmington/Monastery south of Ardy/Ecteria).
1. You can use CB Brace or Varrock tele to get to Champs guild
2. Teleport to house in Rimmington
3. Use Ardy Cape 1 (All you need is Ardy easy diary, takes maybe 20 minutes) to get right outside Monastery
4. From Monastery patch, run east and use fairy ring to teleport to Miscellania.
I have low mage + not all diaries done (laziness rip), so here's my typical run...
My farm runs go:
Herb:
1. Ectofuntus via Ectophial
2. Trollheim via regular tele
3. Kourend via Xeric's tally
4. Ardy patch via Fish Guild Tele (Thank you 99 Fish )
5. Draynor tele via House glory (I also use my regen pool for run)
6. Catherby via regular Tele
After Herbs I do Cactus/Berries together:
1. Duel Arena Tele via ROD
2. Champs Guild via Varrock Teleport
3. Rimmington via House Teleport (recharge run in pool)
4. Ardy Monastery via Ardy Cape 1
5. Ecteria via Fairy Ring (CIP) [You can use fairy ring east of Monastery/Berry patch)
Berries/Cactus Spines re-grow at around the same rate I believe, but I try to pair em up with my herb runs. I do poison ivy berries myself, so berries + spines per run add up to an additional 40k a run.
Furthermore, with credit to Eoinc, I now do birdhouses after I do my herbs/spines/berries. I'd post my method for those here, but Eoinc outlines it very well in his guide

I'll also add that the Chronicle (Book and charges can be pruchased from Diango) can teleport you right next the the champions guild.

Oh wow, I've legitimately never heard of this. Many thanks for the note.

I had no idea there was a patch in kourend XD never really venture that way unless I’m told a reason to go there haha, got my alt into the woodcut guild for magics and that’s about it!
But farm runs are decent just takes a while to make it a habit, the doing a run before I log and having a run ready for when I get back on is a super decent idea though!

Yeah, I do the farm run double up, as well. I log out at Trollheim considering that's the longest run of all the 6 spots.

Very comprehensive great work, I never though about the cactus patch but given it's 8+ hour grow time and mediocre xp rewards I would only use this at low levels for some extra spending money. Is your profit spreadsheet pulling data from rsbuddy/grand exchange prices or are you manually entering the data?
Personally I use "osrs jihadsquad spreadsheet" (should be first result on google) it pulls price data from rsbuddy so it should always be up to date and also includes a ton of other useful spreadsheets for skilling and kingdoms.

You can buy it, but i use watermelons in compost bin (need 15). After it rots, open the bin, add 25 volcanic ash, and you'll turn the super compost into ultra compost, then use 15 buckets on the bin.

I always overlooked toadflax and went to the well known ranarrs, which from peoples screenshots you can see nearly double your money, but toadflax is incredible 1 herb basically covers the seed cost, I just did a 50 seed trial (only got 5 patches as I don’t have trollheim yet) but cost me 100k ish for seeds and made 1.1m back! May be a smaller scale but for people on a budget the profit is amazing! Screen shots in my progress thread and I’m on phone now but I’ll patch it across later!
