OSRS Advice and Staking
This is a little bit overdue but please note that, after countless issues, the moderators of OSRS Advice have agreed to take a stance against the encouragement/advertisement of staking among our clan and members.
While discussing the topic of staking itself is still not against our rules, it should not be streamed in our Discord for other viewers’ entertainment, nor should “stake your bank” be encouraged to other members on any of our platforms. The staking channel on Discord was already removed about a year ago and requests to revive it have since been denied. If you are staking your own money, we do wish you the best of luck, just please do not encourage/pressure others to do the same, pester your clannies for staking loans or to stake on your behalf.
We have seen, on numerous occasions, the negative impact that staking has on our members. Either an effect on their personality as a whole, or even the anger/depression/disappearance that follows after inevitably losing one’s bank in a stake. It happens all too often.
Recently, one such member became so obsessed with it that they began harassing other members of all ranks for loans that they can stake with. They tried manipulating their closest friends in the clan for more and more money, then eventually scammed someone altogether and got banned. This was not some random week-old clannie but one that has been around for about a year and was quite literally being voted on to join the moderator team at the time these issues began.
Some people will inevitably disagree with this decision and say the usual - we are ‘strict, SJW tyrants’ - but it is a decision we feel needs to be made at this point in time. This does not mean that if you are a staker, then you are not welcome here. This is simply a request to try avoiding the discussion of it and of course to move on from the conversation if requested by another member/moderator. This is also not likely to impact a considerable number of our members, but rather an announcement in writing that we can refer the odd occurrence to if necessary.
Thank you, and please feel free to reach out to me if you’d like to discuss this or anything else that may concern you.
